| Two of my heroes Submitted by: Darren Bush | I would like to not only pray for my Grandparents Jud and Ruth Lackey, but I would also like to tell my story about these very blessed people. My grandfather just turned 82 and has been married to my grandmother since he was 16 years old. Hallelujah!!! My Grandfather started out dirt poor (literally) and ended up feeding 25,000 head of cattle. At one point they were very far in debt and slowly Grandpa made money again and eventually sold it. He shipped the last load of cattle out by rail car in Parson, Ks on the Katy, before rebuilding out of the city limits (because of the smell, lol) along the Neosho River. The reason I'm telling you all this is because after knowing what it was like to start from nothing, my grandparents are the most giving and forgiving people I know. My grandfather would have farmhands come in drunk or be drunk by the end of the day and he would let it pass for a while and fire them and then hire them back again. They would steal gas from him and grandpa knew they were hard pressed for money and wouldn't say anything till he couldn't fill his tank up and then the Irish would come out in him (laughing). They have always donated to local charities and helped with food baskets on the holidays. Now, the main reason I'm telling you this. My grandfather has a brain tumor in 25% of his brain and it's in the memory lobe. My grandmother has had colostomy surgery and a pacemaker in the past year or so after grandpa's brain tumor was found. The family first thought that Grandpa would be gone before Grandma. But through the Lord, they have been very blessed. They both are still driving (kind of scary, but safely) and they are still able to get around. My grandfather still does more work in one day than a lot of us do in one week. He says it just takes him longer, laughs and keeps working. They have always kept me believing you truly do reap what you sow. So, THANK YOU LORD FOR SENDING YOUR MANY BLESSINGS TO THESE TWO VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE AND FOR BRINGING THEM INTO MY LIFE! Please continue to help them be there for each other and when it comes time that one of them be alone on this earth, please help them remember the kingdom above. AMEN! | 04-25-2011 |
